A RARE PRESENTATION 54-BORE PERCUSSION TRANSITIONAL HAMMERLESS REVOLVER, MODEL 'HARVEY'S PATENT', serial no. 4047,
circa 1860, with octagonal fine-twist damascus 4 7/8in. barrel, the top-flat signed 'HARVEYS PATENT 4047 BREECH LOADING REVOLVING PISTOL', engraved muzzle with small blade fore-sight, dove-tailed standing notch rear-sight, the left hand top-flat engraved 'PRESENTED TO LIEUT J.J. COTTLE BY THE NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS & PRIVATES' continuing on the opposite right hand flat 'OF THE 27th D.R. VOLUNTEERS COLYTON. FEBRUARY 1862', complex turned and carved articulated rammer also retaining the barrel wedge when closed and further removable to act as a nipple-key and turn-screw, plain cylinder with engraved leading edge and rope-carved rear band, moulded bottom-strap, engraved full nipple-guard with loading aperture, border and scroll engraved radiused boxlock hammerless action with sliding safe on the left hand face, long fully chequered flared grip with cap-box concealed in the domed iron pommel, silver shield-shaped escutcheon to wrist and guarded self-cocking trigger, traces of original finish
